I have a large field with lots of gophers. How do I get rid of them?

nspcoin@sbcglobal.net asked:

Three acre field full of gopher holes, also many dogs, cannot use poison because of animals running free in area. Is it true that rabbit poop spread around will make the gophers move? If so, where can I get the rabbit poop to spread around ? Already tried flooding and many other methods such as smoke bombs, etc. Please don’t give stupid answers like electric fence or blowing up the Field. Thank You

shoot the shit out of them. seriously. get a gun and just kill them all, unless your some sort of hippy who doesn’t like killing god’s creatures or something.

Gophers are annoying. You can call someone to come and get rid of them. I know someone in califonia and they bopped them on the head. I’d try sticking a high pressured water hose and stick it into one of the holes. it should scare them off

those things are stubborn and a huge pain. if you are in an area where no one will freak out if you fire a gun, buy a .22 caliber rifle and shoot the little F*******. thats pretty much the only way you’ll do it.

send them elsewhere…
flood their holes with water, then pour in gasoline, flood a bit more and then put a little gas in to start it and light it. stand back and watch each air pocket “poof” out od the ground. They go to other yards and stay away a pretty long time.
the oil in the gas doesnt mix with the water, the water is a conduit to carry the gasoline thru the maze.

Thanks for this question, because I never knew what a “Gopher” was but having watched a video of them I can see why you want to get rid of them. They must be the ugliest thing on this earth. The only means I can think of to get rid of them would be to Plough the field, would they still come back?
Just had a thought, would Ferrets kill them?

I think you are talking about ground squirrels but either way, gophers or ground squirrels, if you can’t poison them then traps are the most efficient and inexpensive way to get rid of them. The trap can be placed far enough down the hole that pets won’t get in it. Just be sure to stake a leg trap or the animal can drag it down the hole.

If you don’t want to use poison, then you should trap them. One by one, until they’re gone. The best trap on the market is called Old Reliable- Macabee Gopher Trap Co. Los Gatos, Calif. It’s a wire trap that you position into there “runs”. Works EVERY TIME if you do it right. Traps are about $12/ea and you really need 2 for each area. one for each direction the gopher comes from.
