my dog never digs, unless there is a gopher hole and then she goes insane digging in that spot. I need to get rid of the gophers, preferrably in an animal-friendly way if possible, and at the same time need to make sure whatever i do/use will not harm my dog.

I would get a haveaheart trap if you want to keep it a live if not i would git my shot gun and kill it, it might be comeing after your garden if you have one? if so you could get a gophersnake and put it in your garden.

Interesting enough, these little critters are called “whistlepigs” for the high pitched alarm sound they emit.

There are several things you can try.

The Havahart trap – raccoon sized. Bait it with carrots with the greens left on, apples, or tomatoes with a little sugar sprinkled on them. Then relocate them to another area but be aware that in some states it is illegal to transport wild life unless you are an official of the state.

Another option is to have all the males in your household urinate around the gopher’s entrance hole. This drives them off but it must be male urine.

Someone else had great success by wrapping a radio in plastic and ran an outdoor extension cord out into their yard and set the radio on a 24 hour talk station. It drove the gopher away.

Those are the humane ways.

There are the smoke bombs, the poison bombs, shooting.

Hope some of the ideas work for you.
