How do you calculate the moles of a solution that is not given in the equation?

need chem help asked:

The mass of carbon dioxide produced from run “A” is 0.055 g. Based on the balanced equation:
HCO3–(aq) + H+(aq) H2O(l)+CO2(g)
What is the number of moles of the reacted sodium bicarbonate from the single Alka Seltzer tablet?

According to the equation, you are supposed to get 1 mol or 44g of carbon dioxide if you started with one mole of sodium bicarbonate.

Since you only got 0.55g of CO2, you have .55/44 = 0.0125 mol.

Therefore, you started off with 0.0125 mol sodium carbonate.
