Soounds as if you may have moles.
You have a neighbourhood aerator.

What about crawdad holes. We have them all over are backyard.

Probably moles. You can get treatments for them.

most likely chipmunks and or ground squirrels
I live in Maryland and had the same thing. What someone told me was that they were voles. Not moles but related to them. If your looking to get rid of them I was also told to use gum. They are attracted to it, but once eatan, they can’t pass it.
