There is a trap that you can purchase at farm supply stores. This trap will not hurt your dog and it will not hurt the gopher and it will allow you to relocate the little critters to a new location without harming them. The little critters are a nuisance to farmers and ranchers because the holes they leave can cause livestock and horses to break a leg.
Since you don’t like traps, you might call someone who has pet Falcons or Chicken Hawks. They eat little furry animals for lunch.
Another option is poison, but that can kill anything that eats the little critters and I don’t think that you want to do that. I wouldn’t do it, but it is and option.
You might just need to get some outside barncats. This is about the only thing that might make the little critters consider moving. I call them barncats because Ranchers and farmers raise them in ther barns and they stay relatively wild. If you have an outbuilding or a shed, put a couple of cats in there and don’t feed them very often. Soon the gophers will disappear. Cats will not starve unless you raised them in a house, pet them, fed them and ruined them.
When moles invaded the yard at my Mother’s house, we took feces from her cat’s litter box and, after opening up a tunnel with a trowel, dropped the poo into the tunnel and closed it back up again. Within a couple weeks the moles left for a more hospitable environment. I’m just not sure if your terrier would try to dig up the tunnels or not – dogs can get into some pretty disgusting things.
go to your hairdresser & ask for a bag of hair…yes hair..stuff it in the holes..and they will go…don’t know if they dont like to chew on that stuff or if is the smell but it sure worked for me..what the heck…give it a try..won’t hurt puppy either..good luck
