How do you get rid pf a woodpecker?

by admin on April 27, 2009

Mamma M asked:

I have a woodpecker on my house, he’s been there for a few days, and I can’t get rid of him. He annoys the hell out of the family. When we open the doors he leaves, but the next morning he’s back! Any suggestions would be great. I just want to wake up one morning and not have him pecking our roof. Plus I don’t know if he’s doing any damage to the house. Any suggestions?

Well first you need to get an exterminator because your wood ****** is eating bugs in the wood of your house. Probably Termites, or Carpenter Ants. And they will do much more damage than the wood ****** is doing. When the bugs are gone the Wood ****** will leave.

My experience is that they only hang out for about one year (season). Then they move on.

Well, not certain if you have a pest problem or not but to rid yourself of the woodpecker go to any hardware store and bye a owl ornament or blow up one its scares off almost all birds.

We used to have woodpeckers get into the house all the time. I would catch them and take them to a wooded area and turn them loose. The exterminator is a good idea too. Get rid of the bugs and then take the bird for a ride.

Most likely this woodpecker is asserting it’s territory over the bird community. It is less likely that it is eating bugs out of your house. In order to get rid of the problem, you need to give it something to be scared of. Most of the time, owl decoys or cat decoys will do the trick. An exterminator will not be able to trap or do anything to the bird. Your best recourse is to go to the hardware store and get one of those inexpensive lawn/garden decoys. Hopefully, he will get the picture and find another place to assert his dominance.
