RT(R) asked:
lately as i take my dog out to relieve himself in our yard, i have noticed holes. i thought it may have been neighbor dogs digging. But the ground is cold and hard now. Today I noticed lines, like tunnels in the yard. I think I have moles. What can I do to get rid of them. I am not opposed to killing them. Yet, I dont want the neighbor dogs or my dogs to get into poison either. How do I rid myself of them.

Yard moles are there to eat grubs. Get rid of the grubs and the moles will go to someone else’s yard. Call your local garden supply to find out what grubs are common in your area and what they recommend to get rid of them.
When i had this problem i was told to pour hot sauce, the hotter and cheaper the better, down the holes i used the dollar store type cheap and effective i used a lot and now they are gone.
The best way to control moles is by using traps. Poison pellets work also but you are correct that if a pet eats a poisoned mole they will get sick. You probably only have one or two moles doing all the damage. You need to step on all the tunnels at night to smash them down. The next day or two watch to see which tunnels pop back up, these are the main tunnels and you should set you traps there. The other tunnels are feeder tunnels and they usually only use them once. I recommend setting a bucket on top of the traps so pets or children don’t mess with them and get hurt. I disagree with the post recommending grub control. Moles do eat grubs but most of their diet is earth worms, so a grub control does exactly what it states, “grub control”, not mole control. Good luck.
head out to your favorite home improvement/gardening supply place and get some blood meal. place the blood meal around the yard where the tunneling is happening. It won’t kill the moles, but they won’t like it and it will drive them away.
Moles eat grubs. Get rid of the moles with Dylox – yes it is a poison, but it is the only effective method and should not harm your dog after it is watered in.
The next thing is cat poo. If you have a cat put some of its waste in the holes. If you don’t have a cat ask a friend to bring you the litter box cleanings. You may want to explain that cats are a natural enemy of moles and they flee when they perceive cats are in the vicinity.
Now, ppl will tell you to do this that or the other – like placing gum in the holes which wil supposedly clog their digestive systems and kill them – but that isn’t true.
So long as you have grub-worms the little varmints will come back. You can trap and move them all day long, but others will come.
Hope this helps!
maybe used cat litter, as the moles do not like the cats scent
