Moles are nocturnal and don’t “stick their heads out of the ground”.
Gophers are the ones that ‘work’ during the daytime and are famous for the movie, Caddyshack.
Moles are difficult to control. Most likely, you have alot of yummy earthworms in the soil (wet winter conditions)?? Anyway, if you are patient and wake relatively early, you can catch them ‘working’ or pushing up soil in places (like a volcano!) Sneak up to it with a deep spaded shovel, wait for the soil movement, and quickly slam the shovel under the area and down, a good 8-10″. Quickly pull up the soil and turf and toss it up in the air- hopefully, he will be part of the spoils and you can step on his ***!
Otherwise, you can purchase a new mole control product that mimics their main food supply- earthworms. It is a poisonous ‘gummyworm-like’ bait that you place into the hole for his taking. Make sure you use gloves to prevent your scents and hand oils from contaminating it. May take a few days.
Hi Gary!
Moles are very sneaky creatures, but, you can catch them by using a mole trap.
Most likely they will use the same track and you can catch them.
My grandfather used to sit there for hours in the morning and wait for them to start moving so he can hit them with a shovel. Lol
I remember that. They used to dig up his garden, and all the vegetables would die.
Put chewing gum or flour mixed with cement down in the hole!
We have gophers and this is the way we get rid of ours!
If you want to keep them out of your garden, drive different heights of rebar into the ground. When the water hits the rebar, it makes this ringing sound the moles/gophers can’t stand and they will stay away.
I’ve tried everything to get rid of them – traps, chemicals, nothing worked. Removing their food source is the ticket — they are eating and enjoying something in your yard. When we stopped spreading birdseed in the yard, the moles departed.
you can buy this thing called a solar molar, it is a plastic stake woth a solar panel on top the sun charges it and it sends vibrations through the ground it will keep the moles way. As for hitting them with golf clubs, Good Luck!!!
