The Long Lasting Metal Roofing

by Scott Rodgers on August 11, 2009

A roofing type which is preferred by many home owners these days due its high strength quality is the metal roofing. Apart from this, they are light weight, long lasting, fire repellent. Different metals like steel, aluminum, copper as well as alloys are used in these roofs. Another advantage with metal roofs is that their installation process can take place very quickly and is not that complicated.

If a metal roof is installed correctly, it can last 20 to 50 years. The longevity of this type of roof will also depend on other factors such as exposure to wind and snow.

As metals are reflective in nature, they keep the home cool by reflecting the heat in the hot months making a home more energy efficient. Home with wooden roofs can experience intense heat in the attic because of the absorption of heat.

The material used in metal roofing is not combustible which makes it much safer compared to other roofing materials. Many homeowners opt for this roofing material, as it adds an extra level of safety from fires.

One disadvantage of these roofs is that, they are much costlier than other roofing types. They nearly cost about $150 to $600 per square. But metal roofs surly have a longer life which makes it worth the investment.

Generally metal roofs weigh about 150 pounds which is much less than other roofs and due this reason their installation becomes a very easy task. They come in the form of sections or sheets and an expert roofer can install it very quickly.

One common issue that many home owners face is the leaky roofs. Water gets collected over the roof which can be very damaging but fortunately, metal roofing is less prone to leaks and thus don’t require frequent repairs.

As with any type of roofing, unless you have experience and all the proper tools, this is a job best left to the professionals. Roofing companies are skilled in installing and repairing metal roofing and have the experience to do the job quickly and accurately.
