How To Kill Bed Bugs

November 19th, 2009

Bed bugs used to be a nuisance back in the early days, but they were nearly wiped out in the middle of the 20th century. However, bed bugs have been making a comeback lately due to the fact that less powerful insecticides are used today.

Another cause of the resurgence of bed bugs was due to more international traveling where people from countries with bed bugs would go to countries that did not have them. Hotels throughout the U.S. became infected by the pests as well.

Bed bugs can be hidden just about any place where they cannot be seen. They could hide in the folds of your clothing, under your mattress, in between crevices, and other nooks and crannies.

When night falls and you are sleeping, bed bugs come out and feed on you. You will not feel the bite when they are feeding because they excrete an enzyme into your body similar to that of a mosquito.

If you want to kill all the bed bugs, then you will need to seek out all the places that they hide. They normally like to hide somewhere close to their food source. If you miss just one bed bug, they will quickly reproduce so it is imperative to get all of them.

If you suspect that bed bugs are hiding in your mattress, then may want to buy a mattress cover. These plastic covers kill bed bugs by closing them inside the cover. After 6 months or longer, the bed bugs will be starved to death.

To get rid of bed bugs hiding in places other than your mattress, you will have to do some searching. Look at every possible crevice in your home around your bed.

If you feel that you cannot find all the places where bed bugs hide, you might want to call up a professional exterminator. They have the resources and knowledge to kill bed bugs.
