Testing out the CCI 44 mag/sp shotshells… conclusion: For snakes and other small pests it looks like the maximum effective range will be around 8 to 10 feet. For a larger animal such as a raccoon or possum, you can probably stretch it out to 15 feet or so. The gun is a Taurus .44 mag, 44ss6, 6 1/2″ barrel

Yep. Five to ten feet max for this round. For a close encounter with a varmit where you can’t take fast accurate aim, this would work. Nice video.
what kind of pest are you going for your ex?
@infinatebubbles the standard factory load is with 8 shot, I reload my own with 7 1/2 shot with excelent results against diamond back rattlers from my Taurus mod 66 .357
@mmSeven77 WHAT can these “9″ shot penetrate ? that is the real question, the pattern is fine for 8 feet that is really what it is for anyways man, Do you think these have the penetration to go completely through a snake? I had 22LR shotshells that didn’t work worth a damn, it forever put a bad taste in my mouth on these pistol shotshells.
they should make these for airguns!
sweettttttttttttttttt
You should be careful using shotshells with a ported barrel weapon!!! Just Sayin
@LateKnight347 You should be more clear then.
@huntwithairguns you do understand that i was talking about shooting bird shot out of my 22 right?
@LateKnight347 22′s are quite accurate, they’re even used it matches and competitions. 1/4″ groups at 25 yards shouldn’t be out of the norm with good quality ammunition.
@huntwithairguns y cuz the barrels smaller?
@LateKnight347 Well it should!
The CCi shotshells work good on snakes, where only one pellet has to hit em to kill, especially rattlers which usually don’t let you know that they are there until you are less than ten feet away.
This is my no.1 choice for defense against bears in Alaska, drops em every time!
@ofcndenington The gun was a Taurus model 44SS6 – 6 1/2″ barrel
@mmSeven77 so what are you shooting these out of? i use mine in a Colt Anaconda with the 6″ barrel
@smartguy104 Yeah it would lol, especially if you get shot in the face with it.
@1972FordF150 I don’t know whats crueler killin the bad guy or deciding wether to point low or high with this stuff. Either way it would be fairly nasty to catch some of that shot.
my 22 holds a tighter pattern than that
@PestControlDude No prob. These would probably work on rats out to the 10 – 12 range, but I would’t use them at all on anything bigger like a coon or possum. Doesn’t help that they are $1.50 a shot either. If shooting rats or snakes at 5 feet or so, .22 LR birdshot from a handgun should work and it’s much cheaper (around 20 cents per shot). Plus it’s easier to lug a .22 around than a .44! From a .22 rifle, the birdshot will kill out to further ranges, but then you have to lug a rifle around
Thanks a lot for the beneficial video, really helped me out
8 feet would be just about right for a snake.
are those #9 shot or #12 shot?
@mmseven77 the only thing I’m gonna use mine for is to take deer hunting on the days that coincide with squirrel season. I’ll just hope the squirrel is in the same tree as me
@infinatebubbles I had the same reaction to these… not what I was expecting. They are basically useless as a pest control load for anything other than snakes or maybe rats that are 5 feet away. I wouldn’t try to shoot other pests such as raccoons, possums, or even pigeons with these, not even at very close range. Outside of 10 yards you will probably have better luck just chucking the gun at the pest. Not sure of the actual size, but it’s probably #8 shot or smaller… maybe #9.
