How To Successfully Deal With Rats

February 4th, 2010

Rats are a common nuisance in several houses around the world. Some of the methods of dealing with the rat problem in your house are mentioned here.

You can use electronic measures of pest control to rid your house of rats. These methods use ultrasonic rat repellent devices that let out sounds of very high frequencies to repel rats. These sounds are audible only to rats and therefore the devices are safe for people and household pets.

Organic rat repellents are also good solutions for successful elimination of rats. This technique makes use of small tablets or tiny pellets that emit smells of rat predators and thus scare the rats away. They can be spread evenly across the residence, in the garage, backyard and all other places that are frequented by rats.

You can also use moth balls that emit very strong repelling smell and can keep the rats off your house. They are best placed in moist and dark nooks of the house, where rats are generally found.

One of the methods that have been in practice for a long time now is the use of mechanical traps, commonly called wooden snap traps. They are less costly and quite effective when fitted with suitable baits. They must be kept away from children and household pets as they can result in injuries. One problem with these traps is that they can trap not more than one rat at a time. Still, it is a better choice as it is not hazardous like the chemical products that are usually toxic and thus harmful.

Rats can also be trapped and eliminated by making use of a glue board. They can be made of cardboard or wood with their surface covered with glue. The board can then be placed at specific places after placing bits of food as bait for the rats. When rats access the food, the glue sticks to them and they can’t get off the board. This finally results in their death by starvation.

How To Drive Away Rats From Your Residence

November 17th, 2009

Rats are a serious household problem around the world. Some of the ways of tackling the rat problem in your home are discussed here.

You can use electronic pest control methods to rid your home of rats. These ways use very high frequency sounds produced by ultrasonic devices that can keep the rats away. Neither human beings nor household pets can hear these sounds and they are therefore safe for use in homes.

Organic rat repellents can also be used for eliminating rats from the house. This method uses tiny pellets or tablets of chemicals that let out smell of carnivores that eat rodents, thereby chasing them away. These can be sprinkled throughout the house, front yard, garage or at other places frequented by rats.

You can also use moth balls that emit very strong repelling smell and can keep the rats off your residence. These can be placed at all the corners of the house for maximum effect.

One of the methods that have been in practice for quite some time now is the use of mechanical traps, often called wooden snap traps. They are less costly and quite effective when fitted with suitable baits. But, they have to be positioned away from children and household as they can injure them. The problem with such snap traps is that they can catch one rat at one go. Yet the benefit of a snap trap is that they do not have toxic ingredients, unlike other rat repellents.

A glue board is also an effective means to trap and remove rats. These are usually made of wood or cardboard, and sticky glue is applied on their surface. The board can then be placed at specific places after placing some food crumbs to draw the rats. When a rat scuttles across the board for the bait, it gets stuck and eventually dies from either starvation or suffocation.
