How do you go about exterminating rodents from your attic? Do you suggest large or small-sized mousetraps, and where should I place them. Also, we’ve tried using rat poison to no avail. But let’s say we manage to kill some of them off with the mousetraps, will that deter other rats from coming? I would like a way to get rid of the rats for good.

I am growing pumpkins. They were growing just fine (a little on the miniature side, but at least they’re there), until a gopher started eating away at the roots of the plants. I lost one of my best pumpkins. My dad stuck poisonous food in the gopher hole (he’s a liscenced exterminator), and the gopher problems have stopped. But two out of four of my pumpkin plants are still dying, one of them with my biggest pumpkin on it! I have been watering them generously everyday, but the leaves of the two plants just yellow and die. I don’t want my pumpkins to be next! If anyone out there has a real green thumb and could help me out, I’d really appreciate it!

Around chicken coop in yard, these seemingly harmless holes have been appearing. Not gophers, had last year with those conical mounds. Not garden snakes either. Fills with water with seemingly no bottom. Can’t even guess what they could be from. No other possibilities we can think of. Maybe skunks? Digging whatever? Hell, we’re buffaloed!! Any ideas out there??

We bought a house where the lawn wasn’t mowed for about 3 years. After finally getting it down, I discovered we have pocket gophers. I tried a couple of the commercial baits down the holes and even Juicy Fruit gum. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas for me. Thanks!

We have gophers that dig up the lawn and eat the flowers. They are really cute, but I hate what they do to the backyard, and I know they carry rabies. We have dogs who don’t seem to pay any attention to them at all. We’ve tried running water into the holes (lots of water) and we didn’t have any decent results.

Does juicy fruit gum work? How about watering the ground with “Hot pepper tea”? Cats roam our backyard frequently. I don’t want to gas my backyard, nor do I want to spend money on traps. (we had an exterminator do his thing, but many gophers still returned after a few months.) I don’t think attaching a tube to my car’s exhaust pipe is a safe idea either. Now, after saying that, are there any new ideas or input?

A friend lives in Woodland Hills and has many gophers in am empty lot next to his house, digging holes and their numbers are growing. He wants to rid himself of them but does not want to kill them or use chemicals, or hire anyone to do that type of thing. Is there any natural solution or remedy to this problem? Anything that will make them seek greener pastures and just go away? This is a common type of gopher, location is in southern california and the climate is hot and dry because its located in a valley. It will soon be reaching high temperatures of 115 degrees or more in the summer. Thanks for any suggestions.
